Between her job as a Library Resource Sharing Assistant and raising her two very active children, daughter Shazara and son Cassius, Shaunavera never stops moving.

Shazara is a 12-year-old with a passion for performing. A budding actor, dancer, singer and artist, Shazara has performed on stage in front of large audiences. Three-year-old Cassius loves to play, and can’t stop (won't stop!) dancing.

Shaunavera loves listening to music and caring for her family. It is her loving dedication to her children and siblings that motivates her as she works to become a first-time homeowner. Shaunavera relates,

“I’ve always wanted to be able to provide my siblings with a place to return to if life ever happens, and now I'll get to do it.”

Working hard comes naturally to Shaunavera. With her dynamic enthusiasm and cheerful sense of humor, her work ethic will undoubtedly drive her throughout this new journey.

Although Shaunavera is nervous about the responsibility of homeownership, she is excited about her partnership with Habitat Chicago for many reasons. She looks forward to working on the build site, meeting new people along the way who believe in her dreams and ultimately having the opportunity to create traditions with her son and daughter, such as decorating together for the holidays.

To Shaunavera, owning her own home means a sense of safety and security, investment in her family's future, and a great personal achievement. Shaunavera tells,

“My confidence is going to soar, knowing that I’ve worked hard and achieved the title of homeowner.”
