Spanish Coalition for Housing

The Spanish Coalition for Housing provides counseling, education, and housing resources for Latino and other low-to-moderate income families in the Chicagoland area. Trained bilingual counselors offer free-of-charge foreclosure prevention services, as well as homebuyer education, financial education, and energy assistance. Services take place at multiple locations throughout Chicago. The Coalition can also connect individuals with other programs and agencies, including the Illinois Hardest Hit Program and the Chicago Housing Authority.

USDA: Single Family Housing Repair Loans & Grants

This national home repair program provides loans to low income homeowners for repairs and/or modifications to improve the safety and utility of their homes. This program also provides grants to low income seniors to remove health and safety hazards from their residences. Homes must be located in a designated rural area to be eligible for assistance.

VA: Home Improvement Grants

The following grants enable veterans to make home modifications to accommodate for disabilities connected to their military service or for disabilities resulting from aging. The first grant is the Home Improvements and Structural Alterations (HISA) Grant, the second grant is the Specially Adapted Housing (SAH) Grant, and the third grant is the Special Home Adaptation (SHA) Grant.
