WHY WEST PULLMAN?
West Pullman at a Glance
West Pullman is a historic community on Chicago's far South Side with a long heritage of agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation. Over the years, generations of families from many backgrounds have called West Pullman home. Today, the neighborhood is predominantly Black and boasts one of Chicago's highest homeownership rates.
Like many Chicago neighborhoods, West Pullman has experienced the lasting effects of disinvestment and unequal access to resources. Even so, residents have continued to invest in their neighborhood, supported by active block clubs, faith communities, and local organizations committed to strengthening the community.
West Pullman's existing housing stock, high rate of homeownership, and ongoing public and private investment position the neighborhood for continued growth while building on the foundation that residents have established over generations.
