HOME DESIGN & FEATURES

Habitat Chicago homes are designed to be healthy, sustainable places to live for our homeowners.

We take many factors into consideration to achieve this, including affordability, accessibility, adaptability and neighborliness. We also design homes to work well within our mission, taking into account volunteer-friendly construction requirements, environmental responsibility and neighborhood cohesion.

Style & Sizes

The style and size of our homes varies by neighborhood and street location; home assignments are based primarily on household size and the planned construction schedule. Our current and near-future home designs include:

  • Two-story Cottage with three bedrooms and two bathrooms (~1,500 square feet)

  • Two-story Cottage with four bedroom and two bathrooms (~1,800 square feet)

  • One-story Shotgun with four bedrooms and two bathrooms (~1,300 square feet)

  • One and half-story Cottage with three bedrooms and two bathrooms (~1,200 square feet)

Features

  • Energy Star certified mechanical systems, windows and appliances (stove and refrigerator included; dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and dryer optional)

  • A mix of wood laminate, ceramic tile and carpet flooring throughout

  • A selection of finishes for cabinets, countertops and flooring for homebuyers to personalize their home

  • Detached two-car garages

  • Exterior landscaping
